Quaker Oats' Cedar Rapids plant is still the largest cereal mill in the world -- 740 employees, 2 million pounds of oats a day. Collins Aerospace, making microelectronics for a new US Army aircraft program, employs more than 7,000 people in the same city. The Corridor linking Cedar Rapids to Iowa City's university research pipeline is what's actually driving the newer growth.
