Youngstown was a steel town in the Mahoning Valley until the mills closed almost overnight in the 1970s, a collapse severe enough that it's still a reference point for Rust Belt decline. What's less known is that America Makes, the federal government's first manufacturing innovation institute, focused on additive/3D printing, is headquartered there — a deliberate bet on advanced manufacturing built directly on the ruins of the old industry, not a replacement of it.
